Further to my e-mail of Jan 9th 2011 - The Journalist/Publisher was also a Businessman. His name was William Scully and he died in 1885.He started his publication in 1865. On re-reading information on-line, I see that the Brazilian Government had also encouraged the Irish to go there on several occasions, dating back to 16th Century. Sometimes as a fighting force, sometimes for work. It all makes very interesting reading.
How about having a section for Genealogy/Family History - a forum - separate to the Historical Journal? I have looked at some of the articles across the two issues and I found my great-aunt Mary Morrissey in the Upperchurch Cemetery Records 2011 ed. Thank you all for your hard work - much appreciated.

I saw mention of expertise on local families. I have been researching family history for some time. Recently I have been reading up some background on Rio de Janeiro where my Great Grandfather Phelan went in c.mid 1860s. I was trying to work out why he would go there in particular. Apparently a journalist/publisher (can't give details as notes not to hand) had asked the clergy in Ireland to send people to Rio as there was plenty of work there. It crossed my mind that there might have been other local people who also went there.
I would be pleased to hear any thoughts on the subject.

Congratulations!
How do we go about getting copies?

Well done on cycling weekend. It was a fantastic feeling to complete the journey on one of the wetest days. Well done again to all involved and looking forward to next spin in the church.

Thnks again
