Monthly Hill Walk

A hill walk will take place on the last Sunday of every month commencing at 12.30 pm outside the Community Centre.  There will be a different leader every month.

Guided group walks are available on request at other times.

ANNUAL WALKING WEEKEND 5th, 6th & 7th November  2010.  Full details and brochure available at a later date.

Clodiagh Anglers Association

The Clodiagh Anglers Association was formed in 1994 and is primarily a wild brown trout fishery, although there is quality pike fishing in some stretches. The Clodiagh River flows between Upperchurch and Borrisoleigh and joins the river Suir down stream of Holycross. The trout are free rising and in the ½ – 1½lb range. Trout of 2 – 3 lbs are taken occasionally by sedge fishermen late at night. The river has an abundance of fly life with prolific hatches of blue winged olives from June onwards.

Voluntary Housing Group

As there had been no public housing in the area for over 60 years, a need for Voluntary Housing, especially for the elderly was identified by a local conference of St. Vincent de Paul. Many elderly were living in isolation in remote areas and found it increasingly difficult to continue living alone. Some found they were compelled to move to local towns, when in fact they would prefer to remain in their own community.

Drombane Post Office

DROMBANE POST OFFICE

The history for Postal Services goes back to the days of the Persian Empire, when it was seen that control over a wide area depended much on rapid and frequent communication. The Roman empire brought the official Postal Services to a very high degree of perfection but with the falloff the Roman Empire this service disappeared and for a long period Western Kingdoms did not convern themselves with official communication. The Post Office Act of 1657 laid stress on the importance of a centralized Post Office and sweeping reforms were made. The Post Office became, once again, an Official Service for the benefit of trade and commerce and Branch Offices were opened throughout the length and breadth of the country.
